The NFL season has exited its second week of play. A much less thrilling week than week 1, many defensive battles and rainy games. There were still multiple standout performances though, let’s go over them.

Offensive Player of The Week

The Seattle Seahawks took on the Arizona Cardinals this week, in other words, a battle between a titan and the average Joe. The Seahawks lit up the Cardinals defense and this allowed wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba to finish the game with 9 catches for 155 receiving yards, and 3 touchdowns.

This performance from JSN comes off of another great week against the New England Patriots in week 1 where he had 8 catches for 122 yards, and one touchdown. So far the season has been great for the defending Super Bowl champ and Offensive Player of The Year.

Defensive Player of The Week

The Carolina Panthers walked into Mercedes-Benz stadium and destroyed the Atlanta Falcons, a big part of that is due to linebacker Devin Lloyd. Lloyd finished the game with 9 tackles, 1 sack and 2 interceptions. One of those interceptions came off of the Falcons starting QB for the game, Cooper Rush, and the other game against rookie backup QB Jack Strand, which Lloyd took to the end zone for a touchdown.

Lloyd made himself valuable at the linebacker position last season for the Jacksonville Jaguars due to his interceptions. Now here he is with the Panthers continuing to do just that.

Worst Team of The Week

As mentioned before, the Falcons were destroyed in their own home stadium by the Carolina Panthers, a final score of 34-3. The Falcons really stood no chance all game, Rush threw 2 interceptions, and only had 86 passing yards before being subbed out of the game for Strand in the 4th quarter. Strand then came in and threw an interception on his first career pass attempt. Strand finished the game with 59 passing yards and 1 interception.

The Falcons defense also had no bright spots. They had 1 total sack, and forced 1 fumble but did not recover, so no turnovers. This allowed the Panthers offense to work almost flawlessly.

Best Team of The Week

The Buffalo Bills had their first home game in their new stadium, and it was electric. The Detroit Lions were the visiting team, and they really had no answer for anything the Bills offense did. The Bills offense finished the game with 446 total yards, 243 of those were passing yards, and 203 were rushing. The offense finished the game with 41 points.

The Bills defense was also great, they did allow the Lions to score 31 points, however that’s just what happens when you’re playing an offense as good as theirs. Also the Bills were up big for a while, so the defense started to get less aggressive. The Bills defense logged 4 sacks, 2 of which were by defensive end Greg Rousseau, who also had 3 tackles and 1 forced fumble.

MVP Race

This is the same situation as last week where it is relatively hard to name anyone MVP this early in the season, but this top three should cover the definitive top candidates.

At the third place spot is San Francisco 49ers QB Brock Purdy. Purdy has had a phenomenal start to the season so far, with 492 passing yards, 5 touchdowns and 1 interception.

This past week he played the Miami Dolphins which aren’t the greatest team, so this helped his numbers, but don’t forget that in week one he played the Super Bowl favorites, Los Angeles Rams, and put on a show against them as well.

At the second place spot, Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes. Just when we all thought Mahomes would never be the same, after some down seasons and last years injury, he has come back better than ever. Mahomes has 566 passing yards, 5 touchdowns and 1 interception, along with 40 rushing yards and 1 rushing touchdown, pretty good for a guy coming off a torn ACL and LCL.

Mahomes sees himself in this top 3 due to his great performance in week one against the Denver Broncos who have a very good defense, and his follow up performance this past week against the Indianapolis Colts which saw him leading the Chiefs to victory in overtime.

At number one, just like last week, Bills QB Josh Allen. Allen added to his MVP campaign in week 2 by throwing 248 passing yards, 3 touchdowns, he also added 69 rushing yards and 2 rushing touchdowns.

Allen so far this season has a total of 582 passing yards, 5 touchdowns and no interceptions. His rushing totals are 92 rushing yards and 4 rushing touchdowns. It’s going to be hard for anyone to overtake his spot at number one.
