Cowboys are at a rough 1-2 start after losing in back to back weeks.

The Dallas Cowboys started off the season with a win in Cleveland against the Browns which many people thought looked great and was a glimpse of what was to come, for those people, they were slightly right. The offense against the Browns didn’t look great, and it hasn’t gotten any better, failing to keep pace with the New Orleans Saints in week 2, and now the Baltimore Ravens in week 3.

In week 1 the Cowboys defense looked amazing which was part of the reason the Cowboys destroyed the Browns, but the offense only had 265 total yards of offense with 163 passing yards and 102 rushing yards. Overall the offense looked lackluster outside of the 2 scoring drives.

In week 2 against the Saints the offense looked bad right away which put them in a situation where they were down 14-3 in the first quarter, from that point on in the game the Saints just kept scoring, exposing the defense showing it isn’t as great as people thought it would be, and the offense failed to keep up. The offense did produce 353 total yards but most of it came late in the game when nothing they did would matter because they were already losing by so much.

In week 3 against the Ravens the Cowboys started off the same way they did against the Saints going down 14-3 early on, and eventually the score became 28-6, the defense looked bad, and the offense looked bad until a late rally which almost got them the win but they still came up short. The offense had 412 total yards, most of which came in their last comeback efforts, but the run game has proven to be a big problem, with only 51 of the 412 yards being rushing yards.

The Cowboys are lacking play-makers outside of star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, the tight end Jake Ferguson is good but Lamb and Ferguson cannot be the sole reason the Cowboys win any games. Brandin Cooks is a good wide receiver but even with his speed he hasn’t proven he can consistently get separation between him and the defensive backs, and the run game for the Cowboys is non-existent and will continue to be as long as Ezekiel Elliot and Rico Dowdle are the two runningbacks.

The Cowboys had the opportunity to get Derrick Henry during the offseason but didn’t, and Henry with the Ravens had a great game against Dallas

“I like our personnel.” Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said when asked if he regrets not signing Henry. Jones also stated they didn’t have the money for Henry which is simply not true considering the fact he signed a two-year $16 million deal with the Ravens, the Cowboys would’ve been able to afford him for $8 million a year, that is very low for a runningback of his caliber.

Another concern for the Cowboys is Lamb, due to missing almost all of training camp waiting for a contract, he and Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott have not been on the same page, Lamb dropped multiple passes against the Ravens and had a crucial fumble in the redzone. Lamb had been seen on the sideline yelling at Prescott and offensive linemen Zack Martin after the dropped passes, despite the fact those were on him. So the Cowboys need to get Lamb back on track and hopefully in a better mood.

The final concern is the defense. The Cowboys defense against the run has been awful, allowing New Orleans Saints runningback Alvina Kamara to run 20 times for 115 yards and 3 touchdowns in week 2, and in week 3 Ravens runningback Henry ran 25 times for 151 yards and 2 touchdowns, as well as the QB Lamar Jackson running 14 times for 87 yards and 1 touchdown. The defensive line for the Cowboys has to play better, and the team as a whole needs to tackle better because they have missed a ton of tackles.

It is most definitely panic time in Dallas, they should have an easy bounce back win against the Giants on Thursday night, but the schedule this season is even harder after this week and with the lack of play makers they won’t be able to compete. The Cowboys need to make some trades before the deadline.
