Week 4 of the NFL season is in the books and was by far the most exciting week, from Thursday Night Football between the Cowboys and the Giants, to the Monday Night Football double header with the Titans facing the Dolphins and the Seahawks facing the Lions. Week 4 kicks off tonight with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers traveling to Atlanta to take on the Falcons. Now lets recap the worst and best performances of the week.
The Worst
At number three is Pittsburgh Steelers running back Najee Harris, who had a very bad performance in the loss to the Indianapolis Colts.
Harris ran 13 times for a very low 19 yards, averaging 1.5 yards per carry and had 0 touchdowns, he also had 3 catches for 54 yards which is decent but still doesn’t change the fact this was an extremely poor performance.
In all fairness the Colts have a pretty good defensive line featuring defensive tackle DeForest Buckner which makes it harder to run the ball, but even then the 33 year old veteran runningback Cordarrelle Paterson looked better in his 6 rushing attempts.
At number two is Denver Broncos quarterback Bo Nix, who managed to win a game despite doing practically nothing to contribute.
Nix completed 12 passes on 25 attempts for an incredibly low 60 yards, 2.4 yards per attempt, 1 touchdown and 0 interceptions, he also had 5 rushing attempts for just 3 yards.
In all fairness to Nix he was facing a very good New York Jets defense but he has continued to have bad performances almost every week. The Broncos are going to need to see him step up, because it’s not every week where your QB throws 60 yards and then you get lucky and the other teams kicker misses a game winning field goal.
At number one is Jets running back Breece Hall, who other than the missed kick to win the game might be the main contributor to the loss to the Broncos.
Hall ran the ball 10 times for only 4 yards, which means he was averaging 0.4 yards a carry, or in other words he averaged just over 1 foot a carry, Hall also had 2 catches for 14 yards.
In all fairness to Hall the Broncos defense has given many teams problems this year when it comes to running and passing the ball, but when Braelon Allen, Hall’s backup, does better on less attempts there is definitely a bigger problem.
The Best
At number three is Steelers QB Justin Fields, who played a great game despite his team losing to the Colts.
Fields completed 22 passes on 34 attempts for 312 yards, 9.2 yards per attempt, and 1 passing touchdown with 0 interceptions, he also ran the ball 10 times for 55 yards and 2 rushing touchdowns, overall a great performance despite losing.
Justin Fields is really taking his opportunity to prove himself with the Steelers and running with it. He is finally starting to play up to the expectations he had with the Chicago Bears, and has most likely locked up the starting QB job over Russell Wilson.
At number two for the second week in a row is Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry, who had a great performance to help the Ravens blow out the Buffalo Bills who have looked like the best team in the league.
Henry ran the ball 24 times for 199 yards and 1 touchdown, he also caught 3 passes for 10 yards and 1 touchdown.
Henry was 1 rushing yard short of becoming the only player in NFL history to have 7 career games with 200+ rushing yards, a great look for him and if he keeps up this level of play there’s a good chance he hits that milestone.
At number one is Detroit Lions QB Jared Goff, who took advantage of a beat up Seattle Seahawks defense in the best way possible.
Goff completed 18 passes on 18 attempts for 292 yards, 16.2 yards per attempt, 2 touchdowns and 0 interceptions, he also had 2 rushing attempts for -2 yards but that’s not the end of the world, and to everyone’s surprise during the game the Lions ran a trick play where the wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown got the ball and threw it to Goff, so Goff ended up with 1 catch for 7 yards and 1 touchdown.
Goff became the second QB of all time to not have a single incomplete throw on double digit passing attempts. The Lions have to be happy with how Goff has played thus far, helping the Lions be as big of a threat as they were last year.
Looking Forward to Week 5
Week 5 kicks off tonight with a Thursday Night Football showdown between the Buccaneers and the Falcons, with some highlights of this week being the Vikings hosting the Jets, the Texans hosting the Bills and the Bengals hosting the Ravens, then the Steelers host the Cowboys on Sunday Night Football and the Chiefs host the Saints on Monday Night Football.
