The NFL season is coming to a close with the Super Bowl on the way in just under two weeks. The Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles have made their way back to the Super Bowl for what should be an electric game, the Chiefs will try to be the first ever team to three-peat and the Eagles seek revenge against the Chiefs for the Super Bowl two years ago. Here’s a look at what both teams have done well and poorly on their push to the Super Bowl.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs had an amazing season where they went 15-2, one of those losses came in week 18 though where every starter rested so in the end it was basically a 1 loss season which is very impressive. The one biggest thing they have done extremely well recently is avoiding turnovers. On November 17, the Chiefs played the Buffalo Bills, and Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes threw an interception on not just his first throw of the game but also his last, since that game, the Chiefs didn’t turn the ball over a single time up until their AFC Championship game against the Bills once again, so one thing that should be uncommon for the Chiefs in the Super Bowl is turning the ball over. Something else that the Chiefs have excelled in is one score games, out of all 17 games they played, 14 of them were one score games and they won every single one of them, so if the Super Bowl is very close in the final minutes, the Chiefs will most definitely have the advantage. The Chiefs do have struggles though, and one of the biggest struggles is how inconsistent the offense has been all year, there have been many games where Mahomes has less that 200 passing yards or just over 200, and the run game has also been inconsistent especially with the time that running back Isiah Pacheco missed. Another thing the Chiefs will need to be better at is getting to the QB, the Chiefs ranked 15 in QB pressures this year which isn’t terrible, but they have had many big plays against them due to the lack of pressure on the QB, and when playing against a mobile QB like Jalen Hurts they’ll need to put a lot of pressure on him. Overall the Chiefs will have some stuff from get better at, but they also have the things they’re very good at which will help them a lot, they should have the edge in this game but not due to their roster being better than the Eagles, because it’s not, but rather because of the fact they have Mahomes at QB.

Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles had a very good season to bounce back from what was a disappointment to a lot of their fans last year. The Eagles running game has been one of the best running games we’ve seen, with Saquon Barkley having over 2,000 rushing yards this year, and he’s been even better in the playoffs, it’s safe to say Barkley has brought a spark to the Eagles offense that they needed. The Eagles also had the number one defense in the league this year, they allowed 278.4 yards per game which was the best by far, the two rookie corners the Eagles drafted, Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, have been very good and played a huge part in improving their lackluster pass defense from last year, but also bringing in defensive coordinator Vic Fangio has helped the defense a lot as well. The Eagles do need to work on their passing game though, it has been very inconsistent and QB Jalen Hurts has had many weeks with under 200 passing yards and sometimes barely over 100, he did have a big game in the NFC Championship, and in order to win the Super Bowl they may need another performance like that especially because the Chiefs defense has not allowed a running back to go over 100 yards, and if they keep that up against Barkely, then Hurts will need to have an amazing game. Outside of that their one other big issue is just overall consistency, there have been many weeks where they do pass the ball well but don’t get their number one receiver A.J. Brown involved despite the fact he is a huge part of their offense, so in order to beat the Chiefs they’re going to need to be getting him involved early and often. Overall the Eagles have a significantly better roster than the Chiefs, but none of that will matter if they can’t execute well.

Prediction

Looking at how the teams have played this year and how the Super Bowl had gone two years ago, you’d have to imagine this will be a very close game, and it will likely come down to the wire once again. The Eagles have the better overall team but the Chiefs have showed they can give any team a good competition, it won’t be easy by any means for the Eagles or the Chiefs. My final score prediction is 35-33 with the Chiefs coming out on top and making history with a three-peat.
